Curt’s path to becoming the Head Brewer at NC Teaching Brewery includes extensive traveling, education and experience at breweries of all sizes. His passion for brewing stems from his love of science and creativity, and brewing brings both of those together to create endless possibilities.

Curt completed his Bsc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Trent University before focusing his ambitions and venturing off to the illustrious Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, to complete his Msc. in their Brewing and Distilling program.

On his return, Curt joined the Thornbury Beverage Co. (formerly King Brewery) before his international travels kicked off again and he made his way to New Zealand to work at Three Boys Brewery in Christchurch for two years. Following that, he spent three years at Mill Street Brewery in Toronto before joining the NC Teaching Brewery team in August 2015.

Curt’s favourite topic of discussion is, not shockingly, brewing! He’s always happy to field questions and share his brew-geek knowledge with students and guests alike. Curt can rarely be found at his desk because he is always busy around the brewery, teaching our up-and-coming Brewmaster students and sharing his extensive brewing wisdom. Curt is the proud co-owner and Brewmaster of High Road Brewing Company.

As Brad tells it, he hails from “all over Ontario”. He has had the pleasure of living across most of our beautiful province, from Windsor to the North West, and many places in between! His passion for beer was ignited in his 20s when he spent time traveling through Germany, Belgium and the UK.

He started off home brewing and eventually into commercial brewing at WhiteWater Brewing Co. in the Ottawa Valley. His developing brew skills combined with years of small business management encouraged him to pursue this in a professional capacity with the eventual goal of owning his own brewery. So began his stint as a student, and now instructor, at NC Teaching Brewery.

Brad can usually be found sharing his passion and knowledge at our Teaching Brewery, guiding students through the fundamentals of brewing, or out pounding the pavement to promote his new venture, Wooden Horse Brewing Company.
